There was an important meeting Wednesday afternoon at the Walhalla Inn. It was called Back to North Dakota: Coming Full Circle. Guest speaker was Patti Knobbe, Norfolk Nebraska Area Recruiters. I was invited to the meeting to see what it was all about. Patti spoke on how to attract graduates back to the community that raised them. People from the whole tri-county attended the meeting. I even got my picture taken with Lynette and Patti!!

The first beautification meeting of the year was held in March even though there was still snow on the ground its time to think about what to plant in the barrels. I got to go to the meeting and the ladies even let me dig in a barrel. Maybe next month it will be warm
enough to think about plants. The beautification group is also looking at banners for main street and events to do in the park this summer. If anyone wants to join the group they meet the first Tuesday on every month at 6:30 pm.

Sunday when I was at the Ambulance breakfast there were some young ladies serving and cleaning up and when I enquired who they were, I was told they belong to a group called Quiet Storm. I found out that they are a baton group that perform at sport and school functions and have their own recital every year. They told me this year the group has been invited to perform at 4th of July, Rendezvous Art Festival and the Giant Pumpkin Festival. I can hardly wait to see them in action.

Saturday was a busy day for me but I did get the time to go to the Gorge Gallery on Main Street. I wanted to see the artists that were demonstrating their talent.
Dave Gray let me watch as he did his chalk painting and Lori Gray gave me a lesson is one stroke painting.
There were lots of ladies visiting and they let me rest for a minute with them. The members of the Gallery told me that there will be a free cookie decorating class for kids from kintergarden to 8th grade this Saturday, maybe I’ll see if I can join in the fun. Watch to see my cookies. The Gorge Gallery is located in the Walhalla Area Chamber office.

Walhalla held their 4th Annual Giant Pumpkin Festival, Saturday, September 29,2007 and what a day it was. Five giant pumpkins were raised in the Walhalla area and for the second year in a row Walhalla had the heaviest giant pumpkin in North Dakota. The grand prize winner weighed in at 792 lbs. this year. The day’s festivities included the farmers market, many contests including pie eating, seed spitting, egg tossing, pumpkin pie tasting, carved or painted pumpkins and for the first time a Pumpkin Princess contest. A local baton group called Quiet Storm provided entertainment through out the morning. Because this event is in conjunction with the farmers market there is also heaviest vegetable contests which prove to show that vegetables really do grow LARGE in North Dakota. Walhalla’s Giant Pumpkin Festival has always been free to the public. The commitee has successfully orginazed this festival for the past four years. Walhalla’s 5th Annual Giant Pumpkin Festival will be held this year on September 27, 2008 on Main Street in Walhalla.
